February 22, 2026 – Effective Prayer: Alignment, Part 2

Fresh Start Christian Church
Topic: Peace and Favor

Main Scripture: Romans 8:31-39
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written:

“For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Effective Prayer: Alignment, Part 2  1 John 5:14-15

  • Prayer is communicating with God
  • “the divinely authorized means to access the kingdom of heaven and to get that kingdom to intervene in the affairs of our earthly life” ~ Tony Evans
  • Effective Prayer requires:
    • Relationship
    • Faith
    • Confession
    • Persistence
    • Alignment
  • Will (Hebrew: thelo) – to wish, to desire, to have, to want, to purpose; (Greek: diatheka) – covenant
  • “To pray according to God’s will means to give up your own plans” ~ Tony Evans
  • God’s Will is His Word
    • Logos (Written Word) – Bible
    • Rhema (Spoken Word) – Preaching, Prophesy, Godly counsel, God’s utterance, or Holy Spirit unction
  • We have to study the Word (logos) and become intimate with His voice (rhema) so that when we pray, we are aligned to His will.
  • The Scriptures: We believe that the Bible is the verbally inspired Word of God and is inerrant in the original writings. The Bible, being the revealed Word of God, is the ground and foundation from which all claims of truth shall be substantiated (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21; Psalm 119:160).
  • The Written Word provides overarching principles, promises, and truths that we can rely on and use in our prayers.
    • Victory: 1 Corinthians 15:57, 2 Corinthians 2:14, 2 Corinthians 4:8-9
    • Provisions: Philippians 4:19, Matthew 6:25-34
    • Healing: James 5:13-15, 3 John 2, Isaiah 53:5
    • Protection: Isaiah 54:17
    • Wisdom/Guidance: Proverbs 3:5-6

Assignment: Find, write, and meditate on the Biblical promises/Scriptures that match what you’re praying to God for.

Additional Scriptures:  Isaiah 55:11, Isaiah 43:26
